In 2013, Santa Barbara's Funk Zone was a neglected warehouse district. The area lacked the kind of gathering spaces and dining experiences that would unite locals and attract visitors. But it had potential! The challenge was to transform what was then an untended historical building into a thriving hub that would draw visitors, revive the neighborhood and create a new spirit of community.
Guided by its core principles of Integrity, Community, Excellence, and Originality, Acme Hospitality took on the challenge. Paying homage to the rich history of the space, they created The Lark, transforming the old warehouse into a lively bar, expansive communal table, and indoor and outdoor dining areas. The result? An elevated dining experience that breathed new life into the Funk Zone.
The Lark was an immediate success! As the anchor for the Funk Zone, it drew other new local businesses to the area, quickly making it Santa Barbara's number one tourist destination. The restaurant earned several prestigious awards, including recognition from the Michelin Guide!
